Second ESP Graduate Student Workshop Friday, October 22, 1999 Call For Submissions The Empirical Studies of Programmers (ESP) workshop is the premier forum in North America for the presentation of both field and laboratory studies of programmers. The 1999 workshop (ESP 8) will be held on October 22-24, 1999. In association with ESP 8, we are pleased to announce the second ESP Graduate Student Workshop. The workshop is open to any graduate student (MS or PhD) pursuing a degree in a topic related to ESP. This workshop will provide students with an opportunity to discuss issues related to ESP, to present their ideas for thesis/dissertation topics, and to report and discuss preliminary results in a non-threatening environment with other students and a faculty mentor. It will also provide an opportunity to socialize and share ideas with other students who are working in related areas. Each attendee will be expected to write a paper related to their research, and to present it to the rest of the group. After the graduate workshop, participants can get additional feedback from ESP researchers at a poster session during the ESP 8 opening reception on Friday night. The papers from the graduate student workshop will be collected into a proceedings that will be distributed to all ESP 8 participants. Students at all points in the thesis/dissertation process are encouraged to participate. A light reviewing/refereeing process will take place. Authors who have achieved significant results are encouraged to also submit papers to the ESP 8 workshop. THE DATE AND PLACE The graduate student workshop will begin Friday morning, Oct. 22, and will continue through the opening reception for the ESP 8 workshop that evening.
