REMINDER REMINDER C&C99 PLEASE NOTE EXTRA TIME FOR SUMISSION now 9th April CALL FOR PARTICIPATION AND PAPERS Creativity & Cognition 3, 1999 Intersections and Collaborations: Art, Music, Technology, and Science An ACM SIGCHI International Conference Call For Participation www. bashful.lboro.ac.uk/sigchi-wshop In October 1999, Creativity and Cognition 3, an ACM SIGCHI Conference, will take place at Burleigh Court, Loughborough University in Loughborough, England. The first Creativity and Cognition Symposium was held at Loughborough in 1993. It was a highly successful and internationally acclaimed event. Creativity and Cognition 2 in 1996, continued the initial aim of creating opportunities for artists, composers, and scientists to engage in a dialogue about their ideas, and working practices. The third conference will be an ACM SIGCHI event. Its main focus will be on artists, composers, technologists, and scientists working in collaborative partnerships. Invited Speakers: Marvin Minsky, leading scientist, founding pioneer of Artificial Intelligence, and author of "The Society of Mind"; Harold Cohen, leading artist, early developer of computer based art and creator of Aaron, a computer program that generates drawings and paintings Proposals for the presentation and demonstration of collaborative ventures between artists, composers, scientists, and technologists are invited. These could take many different forms including interactive events, Internet/computer based demonstrations and joint presentations. The aim is to explore how the different viewpoints and languages of art, music, and science have influenced or informed one another. Collaborative explorations which have, in some way, moved beyond the existing technology and led to new ways of working are especially welcome. The conference will be a 3 day program of presentations, demonstrations, and poster displays. IMPORTANT DATES The Event: October 11-13th, 1999 Papers will be accepted until: April 9, 1999 - 5 pm local time Notification of Acceptance: May 28th, 1999 Final Copy Date for Proceedings: June 25th, 1999 Topics and Themes: Theories and studies of creativity and cognition; Computers as creativity machines; Computers as catalysts for human creativity; Initiatives in fostering creativity in the community; Intersections and correspondences between art, music, science, and technology; Interactions between artists, musicians, and scientists; Impact of new technology on thinking and action in art, music, and science; Scenarios for the future in the creative arts Event proposals and paper submissions should be sent to the Program Chair: Linda Candy (email: [log in to unmask]) Creativity and Cognition 1999 International Conference LUTCHI Research Centre, Loughborough University, Ashby Road, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 3TU, UK Full Papers: Papers that report recent research results relevant to the themes of the conference are invited. In addition to scientific studies about creativity, reflections and reports about creative practice are encouraged. A paper should be between 5 and 8 single sided pages including illustrations. Position Statements: Short statements of one single sided page are also invited on one of the topics highlighting key issues for research and future action or the artistic results of using the new technologies. Poster Displays: Posters are invited on work in progress related to the general topics of the conference. The posters should be a maximum of 2 single sided A4 paper. An opportunity to present the work will be provided at a poster reception and they will be on display throughout the> conference.
