Our apologies, if you receive many copies of this message...  ========================================================================                         DEADLINE EXTENSION: 30.11.2000 Due to several requests we received, the submission deadline has been extended to the 30th of November 2000.  ========================================================================                         C A L L F O R P A P E R S                         2nd INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON                 USER INTERFACES TO DATA INTENSIVE SYSTEMS (UIDIS 2001),                         ETH Zurich, 31 May - 1 June, 2001                         http://www.uidis01.ethz.ch  =========================================================================                         IMPORTANT DATES         Deadline for submission of papers: 30 November 2000         Notification of acceptance/rejection: 15 February 2001         Submission of camera ready copies: 15 March 2001  ========================================================================= User interfaces to databases and other information management systems are typically investigated only after research in the underlying technologies is well under way. This seems contradictory in an age where information is distributed on a global scale, creating environments where effective user interfaces to data intensive systems is a necessity.                                 T H E M E UIDIS 2001 continues the tradition of previous workshops in Interfaces to Database Systems (IDS 1992, IDS 1994, IDS 1996) and the UIDIS 1999, and seeks to bring together researchers in information management systems, human-computer interaction and knowledge based methodologies. It provides a platform for the presentation of current results and encourages the exchange of ideas on how user interfaces to data intensive systems should be improved from a conceptual as well as from a practical viewpoint. UIDIS 2001 will provide a forum to present original research contributions in an informal atmosphere allowing sufficient time for discussions and debate as well as presentations and demonstrations. We encourage submissions of technically high-quality papers covering one or more of the following topics: INFORMATION RETRIEVAL TECHNIQUES, in particular                 query and query results interfaces                 natural language interfaces                 intelligent user interfaces                 multimedia interfaces                 interface architectures                 semantic hyper-media INTERACTIVE SYSTEMS DESIGN, in particular                 user-interface development systems                 interface architectures                 data mining tools                 model-based interfaces INFORMATION VISUALIZATION, in particular                 virtual reality                 visual information management                 visual languages                 visualization of search results                 Visualization on the World Wide Web Papers are also invited that report on actual applications in the domain sciences, e.g. in medicine, the natural sciences, the geo-sciences, etc., and describe the experiences made with data-intensive systems in these fields.                                 V E N U E The two days workshop will be hosted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH-Zurich), which provides the computing and communications infrastructure for advanced demonstrations and/or presentations. Zurich is the business capital of Switzerland and can be reached conveniently by train, plane or car. The city is the central point to many excursions as well as to many sports facilities in the Swiss Alps.                 S U B M I S S I O N G U I D E L I N E S Papers should not exceed 5000 words in length, double-spaced and printed with a font size of at least 10pts. Demonstration proposals should be marked as such and should be submitted as short papers of up to 2000 words. The proceedings, published by the IEEE Computer Society Press, will contain all accepted and presented papers and the short reports describing the demonstrations.                         Electronic paper submission You can submit only postscript, DOC (MS-Word) or PDF files. Use the following URL to upload your document: http://www.uidis01.ethz.ch                         Hardcopy paper submission Send 4 copies to one of the addresses shown below. Epaminondas Kapetanios Institute of Information Systems ETH-Zentrum, 8092, Zurich, Switzerland or Prof. Hans Hinterberger Institute of Scientific Computing ETH-Zentrum, 8092, Zurich, Switzerland The workshop will take place just prior to CAiSE 2001, http://www.caise01.ch, allowing attendees to participate in both events.
